Name: Stephen Longest Position: SE Regional Sales Manager Years with the company: 3
What was your childhood like?
I grew up in a small town in Virginia. My high school graduating class had 72 people. I watched my parents raise a family of 6 on one income. They taught me the importance of hard work and family.
Who was a hero to you growing up? Why?
My hero was Cal Ripken Jr. Not only was he a great shortstop, but he still holds the record for most consecutive games played. He showed me the importance of being consistent.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy taking my boat out with friends. We cruise out to one of the many islands around where I live and enjoy the beach and sun.
How did you end up in metrology? Did you go to school for it?
When I was 19 my parents wanted to help me find more than just a job, so my Dad helped me apply for The Apprentice School at Newport News Shipyard. I studied Dimensional Control and graduated in 2008. It wasn’t what I dreamed of being as a kid, but it didn’t take long for me to realize it’s my passion.
How did you come to be at API?
In 2016, I had just left a job as a metrology technician. I reflected on my strengths, and my love for metrology and passion for helping people find solutions made me an ideal candidate for API.
What are your roles and responsibilities with API?
As a Regional Sales Manager, I am responsible for providing support and solutions to customers in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama. I oversee all product and services sales in the territory.
What sets API apart from other metrology companies in your mind?
API has a reputation for producing the most accurate and portable laser trackers on the market. We have always been innovative, and we’re making constant strides to provide the highest level of customer service.
What API Product or Service are you most excited to tell people about?
I am a huge fan of the Radian Plus and vProbe. I’ve sold this pair to quite a few customers and the versatility of the set is incredible. The tracker can measure up to 80m, and with the vProbe, you can get into all the small crevices of detailed parts that an SMR can’t reach.
What about API’s future excites you?
API is so innovative, I can’t wait to see what products we will be producing in the years to come.
What does “Nothing Beyond Measure” mean to you?
Our slogan truly represents our company culture. When a customer comes to us for a solution, API always finds a way to accomplish their project.
