Optoelectronic Engineer (Rockville MD)

Optoelectronic Engineer

 

API is seeking an optoelectronic engineer to participate in the development of cutting-edge LIDAR technologies for industrial metrology. The successful candidate will conceive, design, and prototype electronic circuits and test optoelectronic systems for time-of-flight LIDAR. This position will require understanding and troubleshooting complex electronics and system problems. Additional activities include error budget estimation, documentation, vendor management, technology transfer to production, and current API product support. Preference will be given to candidates who has development experiences in either ToF LIDAR system engineering or RF electronics.

Automated Precision, Inc is seeking an engineer for software development to support state-of-the-art Laser Measurement Devices and Scanners. The candidate will be responsible for providing substantial technical contributions in a complex, time-sensitive, and safety-conscious working environment. The successful candidate should demonstrate an interest and aptitude for working effectively in dynamic, multi-discipline teams.

Required

- BS / MS in Computer Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent.

  • Assists Regional Sales Managers in demonstrations of equipment.
  • Conducts testing on products to determine specifications and reliability.

Machinist (Rockville, MD)

Job Description:

Set up, operate, or tend lathe and milling machines to turn, bore, thread, form, or face metal or plastic materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometer and calipers
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachment, accessories, and materials onto machines
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lather, milling machines, shapers, or grinders
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers
  • Inspect samples work pieces to verify conformance with specifications, using instruments such as gauges, micrometer, and dial indicators
  • Study blueprints, layouts or charts, and job orders for information on specifications and tooling instructions, and to determine material requirements and operational sequences
  • Adjust machine controls and change tool settings in order to keep dimensions within specified tolerances
  • Move controls to set cutting speeds and depths and feed rates, and to position tools in relation to work pieces
  • Start lath or turning machines and observe operations to ensure that specifications are met
  • Select cutting tools and tooling instructions, according to written specifications or knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics
  • Crank machines through cycles, stopping to adjust tool positions and machine controls to ensure specified timing, clearances, and tolerances
  • Replace worn tools, and sharpen full cutting tools and dies using bench grinders or cutter-grinding machines
  • Position, secure, and align cutting tools in tool holders on machines, using hand tools, and verify their positions with measuring instruments

Requirements:

  • High school or equivalent
  • Requires the reading and interpretation of complex mechanical blueprints with GD&T. Experienced with wide variety of precision measuring equipment. Basic knowledge of using measuring instruments, machine tools and electronic meters
  • Experience in manual milling machine operating
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment

Laser Tracker Operator ( Metro Detroit MI Area)

Title: Laser Tracker Operator

Description: API’s Exact Laser Measurement (ELM) Division is seeking motivated young professionals for full-time measurement work in the Metro-Detroit area. Tracker Operators will take ELM equipment to customer sites and perform touch and scanning measurements, delivering fast, accurate results that keep customer manufacturing processes running smoothly. Tracker Operators will work in a variety of industrial environments, making inspections and verifications at various stages of the manufacturing process, from machine and factory component alignment to part inspection/verification to building scanning. Tracker Operators may also perform Laser Tracker Certification and other duties as directed out of our Plymouth, MI office. Tracker Operators will receive comprehensive in-house training on equipment setup/operation, software use, and best practices. Trainees will need to sign 1-year service commitment to ELM.

Requirements: Applicants must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and basic math skills. CAD Knowledge is preferred. Manufacturing Technician – Optical Assembly

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience with instruments containing optics, mechanics and electronics.

The Responsibilities Include:

  • Position, align, and adjust optical and mechanical parts to facilitate assembly.
  • Delivery of product on time to production schedule.
  • Ensure delivery of defect free product.
  • Clean parts, using cleaning solutions, air, and cloths.
  • Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, and reports in order to determine materials requirements and assembly instructions.
  • Mark and tag components so that stock inventory can be tracked and identified.
  • Position, align, and adjust optical and mechanical parts to facilitate assembly.
  • Pack finished sub-assemblies or assemblies and transport them to storage areas.
  • Confer with supervisors or engineers to plan and review work activities, and to resolve production problems.
  • Effectively communicate any supply chain issues that are affecting production. 

 

The Requirements Are:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1-2 years experience in optical mechanical assembly
  • Basic knowledge of using measuring instruments, machine tools and electronic meters.
    Experience with quality systems such as ISO, TQM, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience with assembly troubleshooting.
  • Must have a “can-do” approach to every challenge and be a problem solver. 
  • Must be able to articulate verbally and in writing to clarify and resolve problems on all products.

 

 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Will be operating instruments with multiple computers at the same time. Must have basic computer skill for transferring data between multiple computers

2. Will assist service team in calibration, repair, rental equipment verification, and service equipment identification

3. Perform precision alignment of optical parts to 10 microns

4. Work closely with the API Global Diagnostics/Support team on calibration and repair related issues, as they arise

5. Responsible for daily production activities and work on different products as required

6. Responsible for assisting with shipping and receiving and moving items to the appropriate parties

7. Responsible for completing and assigning appropriate to-do’s in Project Management software

8. Report issues to management and provide feedback on proposed solutions

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other requirements:

1. Must possess good computer skills and knowledge using of spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel)

2. Experience with 3D coordinate systems a plus

3. Experience of working with laser and optical instruments is a plus

4. Must be a detail oriented individual with fine motor skills to handle the intricacies of the products
